Crypto-Crowdfunding Workshop at Coinfest

Crypto-Crowfunding Workshop is planned for Saturday, April 8, 2017 at The Tribe at 401-68 Water Street, Vancouver, BC. This event is part of the annual Coinfest and its founder is Andrew Wagner from the Bitcoin Coop in Vancouver.

In 2016, blockchain startups raised some $200 million in Initial Coin Offerings (ICO), a new form of crowdfunding based on cryptocurrency tokens. An ICO is an unregulated means by which funds are raised for a new cryptocurrency venture. An Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is used by startups to bypass the rigorous and regulated capital-raising process required by venture capitalists or banks. In an ICO campaign, a percentage of the cryptocurrency is sold to early backers of the project in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies, but usually for Bitcoin.

CoinFest always needs more organizers. We hope to spread across the globe, and could use your help! Although you will not directly profit from this event, you will get media attention and experience that will add to your credentials, find you new connections, and indirectly bring publicity to your other ventures and projects. This presents a great opportunity to prove your ability to manage an important project, all while making a difference and earning the thanks of your fellow enthusiasts.

Recent statistics show that Crowdfunding is estimated to have created approximately 270,000 jobs world wide and injected more than $65 billion into the global economy, proving that this relatively new method of raising capital is definitely here to stay.

When utilized correctly crowdfunding platforms provide the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurs to launch new products, fund innovative ideas and develop a global community in support of their business.

Unfortunately, it isn’t all rainbows and success. According to statistics provided by some of the most well-known crowdfunding platforms in North America, on average only 44% of campaigns succeed in reaching their funding goal.

In this afternoon workshop you will learn:

• The difference between rewards-based crowdfunding, fundraising & equity crowdfunding.
• Why some campaigns fail and others succeed.
• Strategies for planning and launching a successful rewards-based campaign.
• How to use Facebook Ads to build your social media following and promote your campaign.

If you are looking to create a rewards based crowdfunding campaign, want to learn more about the world of crowdfunding or determine if this is the right avenue for your business to raise capital, then you cannot miss this workshop.

The keynote speaker for the first crowdfunding workshop is Daryl Hatton, CEO of Fundrazr. The Art Party Social Club at Hideaway Nightclub

The Waldorf Hotel Upgrades The Art Party at No Cost to Support Local Community

April 1, 2016 (5pm to 8pm):
The Waldorf Hotel moved The Art Party ( free entry event at no cost to the Hideaway Nightclub space that fits over 100 people. The Vancouver-based social club for local art and small business members originally booked the back area of Nonna’s, which was no longer available due to an upcoming movie shoot throughout this historic hotel. The Waldorf Hotel needed the lucrative movie contract and moved this event to the Hideaway Nightclub, providing more space for DJ, dancing, networking, live painting and art show.

Local Artists:
DJ Dunbar (Cole Fraser) will be spinning some chilled retro, to complement a duo art exhibition with Christopher Rodrigues (abstract planet artist) and Sarazen Brooks (abstract galaxy artist) at this networking mixer. The Waldorf is also opening the bar and the kitchen by the Hideaway Nightclub to support this event.

Local Small Businesses:
Sponsors include First Canadian Barter Exchange (network of +600 local business owners) running a $23,000 contest called Small Biz Win Big (, DreamTalks, event-based company with a reach of +30,000 young professionals in Vancouver, Golden Brush Art, live painting competitions and DA Top Talent, business coach for small business owners.

About The Art Party:
The Art Party started as a Facebook Group in 2010 to promote the Main Art Drift, an annual event of local small businesses supporting local artists along Main Street, Vancouver. Today, The Art Party is a social innovation club located in East Vancouver that promotes Buy Local to Support Local Artists to +7,000 contacts on social media. The Art Party’s buy local post was shared 615 times and liked 64 times on The Art Party Facebook network. This inspired the tagline: “Buy Local to Support Local Artists”. The Art Party held its first mixer in 2012 at The Waldorf Hotel, but after the hotel’s closure, the mixers went on hiatus until 2015.

About The Waldorf Hotel:
In January 20, 2013, The Waldorf Hotel was forced to close due to the unexpected sale to Solterra Group of Companies (Solterra), a condominium developer. It had re-opened its doors on October 31, 2010 and showcased the city’s top culture producers like Black Mountain, Douglas Coupland, Rodney Graham, Grimes, Japandroids, Michael Turner, and Paul Wong all headlined events there. Prior to this, the complex, which was built in 1947, had seen better days, and was just one of many dilapidated Eastside dive bars. The closure caused a petition with thousands of art supporters protesting Solterra who was unwilling to sit down and discuss negotiating long-term lease possibilities with former tenant, Arrival Agency.

Facebook Event:

This was a fun joint event with First Canadian Barter Exchange. Over 70 guests attended. Malcolm Parry from the Vancouver Sun interviewed several of the guests.
